It’s a battle of the “double C’s” as IWA Mid South presents a match between two of the best mat wrestlers in the sport today. “Double C” Claudio Castagnoli takes on former WWE developmental talent and Michinoku Pro star Chad Collyer in what can only be described as a wrestling clinic.
Collyer burst out of the curtain fired up and ready to destroy Castagnoli. While Collyer was faced with the size disadvantage, he didn’t let that affect his game plan. From the opening lock up these two oozed intensity. Their mat game was exceptional as neither could gain a decisive advantage over the other. While they both exchanged holds and locks, both were so fast that they must have gone through ten different holds in the first minute of the match.
The two must have got to stalemates at least five or six times in the following minutes of the match. Both Collyer and Castagnoli continued the work over each other’s arms, but neither was able to take over on the advantage or gain more than a two count near fall. Growing frustrated, Castagnoli extended his had to shake Collyer’s. Collyer was met with a rake to the eyes for his efforts to keep this a fair and clean match up.
With two performers as talented and skilled as Collyer and Castagnoli, it’s hard to predict a winner, though Castagnoli’s dirty tricks have lead to victories for him on more than one occasion. Would tonight be another night like that or would Collyer be able to dig deep and come away with a victory of his own on this 8th anniversary show?
