This is an opening round match in the NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Title Tournament. Originally, the tournament was scheduled to feature twelve women in three four woman brackets, but due to last minute cancellations, the number was cut to ten on the ay of the event. Becky Bayless, who up to that point had only appeared as manager of Jimmy Jacobs in IWA-MS, stepped up to the plate at the beginning of the night and asked to fill one of the voids to show what she can do, despite her relative inexperience as a wrestler. She certainly had her work cut out for her against east coast standout Mercedes Martinez. Bayless is accompanied to the ring by Jacobs, her manager for the evening.
