If you like old-school wrestling this is a match not to be missed. Having just come off a victory over the former Champion Kafu at Kristmas Kaos, all eyes are now on Derek Sanders. It looks like a former two-time NWA Heavyweight Champion not only had his eyes on Sanders but also his cross hairs and is looking to take aim at the APW Universal Heavyweight Championship as well. Sanders was looking at a very challenging first title defense.
"The Colorado Kid" Mike Rapada is a former two time NWA Heavyweight Champ holding victories against such greats as Jerry Lawler, Terry Taylor and Sabu. While he may have not reached the fame and popularity of some of the other former NWA Champions, he is a man not to be underestimated nor ignored.
This match had a great old-school style vibe to it. Nothing flashy or high-risk, just great wrestling. Rapada was able to get the first move on Sanders with an arm drag, but Sanders answered back with an arm drag and hip toss of his own sending Rapada to the outside to collect his thoughts and refocus. Later in the match Rapada got a chain and used it to choke Sanders. Eventually the referee was able to get the chain away from the "Colorado Kid," but Sanders was already looking in bad shape. Would Rapada walk out of Bakersfield as the APW Universal Heavyweight Champion in his APW debut or would Sanders be able to dig deep into his "Heart of Fire" and pull out the victory over this accomplished wrestler?
