ClickWrestler Of The Week - 11/5/2009 - April Hunter

ClickWrestler of the Week

Our resident philosopher profiles one of the most popular independent wrestling stars. The fiery redhead went from Playboy pin-up to making pins in the ring.

Her nWo Days

April Hunter was a fitness model when she was approached to pose in Playboy. The photo spread came to the attention of talent scouts at WCW. They were looking for women to off-set women like Sable in the WWE. She was brought in as one of a bevy of beauties that would accompany the nWo. Budget cuts ended her time with Ted Turner's group.

The Independent Scene

After her release, April was introduced to legendary wrestler/trainer, Killer Kowalski. Kowalski helped April, a star student, get bookings on the East Coast. He also helped to secure some dates overseas. The busty redhead was an instant hit with the fans and became one of the top requested females on the East Coast Independent Circuit. In 2002, April was brought into the fledgling TNA organization. She battled "Miss TNA", Bruce, as well as other males in the company. At the time, TNA had very few female wrestlers and April wasn't afraid to get into the ring with guys. After finishing her run in TNA, April worked with her then-boyfriend, Slyk Wagner Brown, in the Philadelphia and New Jersey markets. They held numerous titles, both as singles and as a tag team. The two did their first tour of Canada in 2005. April hooked up with celebrity, Carmen Elektra, and her Naked Women's Wrestling League. As a former Playmate, April was a perfect match for the organization.

April had to scale back her wrestling activities after she broke her nose at one of the NWWL events. In April, 2006, Hunter moved to Women's Extreme Wrestling. She formed a successful tag team with Talia Madison (Velvet Sky). The team was known as T & A (not to be confused with the WWE's Test and Albert duo -- like that would be even remotely possible). The took the tag team titles from Team Blondage. During this time, April had a nasty breakup with Brown and began dating J.D. Michaels (Jordan Danyluk). The two were married on August 30, 2006. April switched to more of a managerial role for her hubby and a few other independent stars. Hunter took the World's Queen of Chaos and TNT Women's title before nagging injuries forced her to retire from active wrestling. Since her retirement, Hunter has done several film roles and has gone back to photography (which she has a degree in). She still serves as the manager of her husband, on occasion. She also has a racy subscription website for her adoring fans. She's also been a repeat guest on the Howard Stern Show.

In Conclusion:

April Hunter is the most popular female wrestlers in the US markets. While she has never worked for the WWE, there are few fans that haven't heard of her. She has worked as a model, valet, manager, internet journalist and wrestler. ClickWrestle.com has quite a few of her matches available to enjoy. OnlineWorldofWrestling.com has even more information about the wild redhead.
