Awesome Kong
Kia Stevens entered the doors of the School of Hard Knocks with big dreams, but it'd be hard to imagine the life that she would soon be living. Within a year she was impressing Japanese talents scouts. A spot was open in All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling when popular Japanese Joshi, Aja Kong, needed to take time off. Kia was dubbed Amazing Kong, the American Kong. Kong would go on to be the most popular Japanese grown gaijin since the early 90's. Kong was a monstrous presence that could be compared as a female version Bruiser Brody or Stan Hansen.
Kong's popularity made her a very attractive talent for SHIMMER to begin adding to their shows, begining with Shimmer Vol. 5. Kong never won SHIMMER gold, usually due to Kong being disqualified, but Kong was never pinned until she lost to Mschif at Shimmer 28. At this point, Kong was the biggest fish in a small pond, but her break to being the biggest fish in the world, was still ahead.
Kong's debut with TNA came with a slight name change, she was now known as Awesome Kong (TNA already had Amazing Red), but her power and dominence was no different than anywhere else she ever set foot previously. The stage may be different but the path of destruction behind her felt all too familiar. Kong went on to become the second TNA Knockout's Champion after defeating Gail Kim. TNA wanted Kong to be an unintelligent monster, so they paired her with a manager by the name of Raisha Saeed. With Saeed as the mouth piece, Kong would go on to win the Knockouts title a second time, as well as eventually winning the Knockouts Tag Title with Hamada.
This week's ClickWrestle Staff Pick of the Week is a match that took place for ChickFight. The match is Amazing Kong vs. Cheerleader Melissa. Melissa is one of the hardest hitting wrestlers in the world, male or female, but in her first encounter against Kong, even Kong's reputation couldn't prepare her for the strength that was needed. Kong and Melissa are indeed two of the heaviest hitters in the industry, and if anyone needs that point proven to them, check out this match.
