Angelina Love
Our resident philosopher looks at the former leader of The Beautiful People who has struck out on her own after a brief vacation from TNA.
Lauren Williams was born in Toronto, Canada in 1981. She grew up watching wrestling from the time she was a young girl. She admired women like Madusa Miceli, Sherri Martel and Sunny. By 2000, she was ready to take a chance on a wrestling career. She got her initial training from "El Fuego" Rob Etcheverria. She worked a lot of indy shows in Southern Canada and the Northeast U.S., including runs with Border City. There, she would work with numerous future TNA superstars, like Eric Young and Chris Sabin.
Deep South Canadian
While working around the US in the Spring of 2004, Lauren was noticed by road agents for the ,WWE. They invited her to a try-out in the developmental area, Ohio Valley Wrestling. Her work ethic and natural beauty impressed the trainers and she was signed to a developmental contract. Williams would eventually be transferred over to Deep South Wrestling, where she began as a manager. By mid-2005, she was ready to compete. Her first match was a winning effort against Michelle McCool. Williams continued to feud with various females until February 9, 2006, when she tore her ACL. That side-lined her for about seven months.
When she returned, she began managing the Gymini Twins. Once they were released from the developmental organization, Williams went back to wrestling. Williams began a feud with on-air General Manager, Krissy Vaine. Williams made her return to action on May 16, 2007, defeating Serena in a dark match. Due to cost cutting measures, Williams (along with numerous others) were released on May 17th.
Total Non-Stop Angel(ina)
After her WWE release, Williams did tours of both Mexico (as the Canadian Angel) and Canada (as Angel Williams). She was offered a one-shot deal to appear as part of the expanding Knockout division in TNA. She first worked under the Angel Williams name. She was partnered with Talia Madison from early on. Both women would under-go identity adjustments. Madison would become Velvet Sky (supposedly somewhat of a "Hippie Chick" persona) and Williams would become Angelina Love. Their first tag team was known as Velvet Love Entertainment. That name just didn't click with the fans. The story goes that a passing comment in the back created their team name. An unknown person made a comment about how they were "Such the Beautiful People". The comment was meant sarcastically but it stuck.
The Beautiful People went on a rampage against all the "Face" Knockouts, including ODB, Gail Kim and Roxxi. Love would bring in Moose (Mickie Knuckles), Madison Rayne and Kute Kip (James) to expand the Beautiful People's entourage.
Love remained the leader of the group. Rayne and Kip would eventually be booted out of the group. Moose endured a major leg injury and had to have surgery. She has yet to return to TNA. Love was granted a shot at the Knockout title at Lockdown 2009. She won the title after tying Kong's dreadlocks to the cage and then pinning Taylor Wilde. She would hold the belt until July 9,2009. when she lost the belt to Tara. The Beautiful People began to dissolve over the next few months. Madison Rayne was brought back into the fold to try and reignite the group. On September 3, 2009, Love's work visa expired. TNA released Love and she took an extended vacation, back in Canada. She did a few appearances but mostly took time to rehab various nagging injuries.
Putting some Love back into TNA
Love re-signed with TNA on January 2, 2010. She showed up on the January 14, 2010 edition of TNA. The Beautiful People (Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne and Lacey Von Erich) noticed Love at ringside and gave her a cool welcome back. Love had been in the crowd on the special edition of Impact on January 4th but didn't get involved with the show. On the 14th, Love jumped the rail and attacked the Beautiful People for daring to replace her with Lacey Von Erich. Love has recently teamed with Tara, who took her Knockout Title. They have been going after Sky and Rayne, who won the Knockout Tag Team Title.
In Conclusion:
Angelina Love aka Angel Williams has been a top female wrestler for more than a decade. She has been one of the most hated heels and a much admired face. She's been in the WWE system and TNA, as well as multiple independent promotions around the world.
